Hi everyone,
Hope all is well and your seasons are starting to swing. No time for an eye-catching, full-color email with cool graphics for this announcement! We’re organizing a spur-of-the-moment, informal training camp to be held this upcoming weekend, Sat May 15 and Sun May 16, open to all current ENMU Club members and coached athletes. You can participate in any or all of the group training sessions, social activities, and/or race listed below as fits your own personal schedule. Here’s the plan:
SATURDAY, MAY 15
8AM Group community trail run led by Budd Coates, departing from the Finish Line Running Store in Emmaus, PA, the official run shop sponsor of ENMU. Runners will access a brand new trailhead within 0.5 miles of the store and continue up the beautiful trails on South Mountain. Distance will be ~5 miles with a shorter option possible.
9:30AM Grab some coffee and more at Perk in Emmaus, PA. *Note: everyone is responsible for their own purchases.
12PM Meet in parking lot of 24-7 Fitness Westend to travel to Beltzville State Park in Lehighton, PA, where we will ride the Black Bear Triathlon bike courses. If you’re racing either the sprint on Sat May 22 or the Olympic on Sun May 23, this coming weekend may be your last chance to preview the tough, hilly course prior to race day. It may be wise to scout out any potholes from this past rough winter in advance of the race, especially on any descents! Even if you’re NOT racing this year, this would definitely give you a good cycling workout. Cue sheets will be provided, which will allow everyone to ride at their own comfort / ability level and extend the ride duration as they wish.
6-8PM Exclusive use of the 24-7 Fitness Westend pool for open water swim training. Yes, open water in a pool. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read THIS about what we’ve been doing the past few Wednesday evenings. Great way to test out a new wetsuit before your first spring tri, or an old wetsuit to make sure it still fits after that afore-mentioned rough winter : ) *Note: if you’re not a member of 24-7, there will be a $15 guest fee.
8:30PM Dinner at a nearby restaurant, yet TBD, based on how many people can go and whether we’ll need a reservation. *Note: everyone is responsible for their own purchases.
SUNDAY, MAY 16
9AM Join the Finish Line gang at their 8th Annual Ironton Rail to Trail (IRT) 10K race. 10K’s have become harder and harder to find, and this is a good one! Proceeds go directly to maintenance of the trail, which is used by so many of us throughout the year. SO WHAT if you’re afraid your finish time will be slow because your quads are blasted from Saturday’s training…how do you think you’re going to feel on the run leg of that Olympic race you have on your schedule?! Online registration is open till Friday at noon and there will also be day-of registration available.
11AM Picnic at the race site, Saylor Park. Bring some snacks or drinks to share!
You can let me know if you’ll be able to attend (and which activities) so we can keep an eye out for you. OR just show up when/if your schedule allows. Hope to see some new faces!!
P.S. A few other things:
- If you’re a fairly recent member of the Club and have not yet received a welcome packet, please be patient; you can expect to receive this in the next several days.
- Look for the much-belated new edition of the newsletter to be delivered to your inbox soon…promise!
- Tuesday night community runs leave from the Finish Line at 6PM, led by me. Distances vary but have been in the 4-6 mile range, with all paces accomodated. All runners welcome, not just Club members.
- We will let those of you who purchased uniforms for 2010 know when the anticipated delivery date is as soon as we know.
